Councillors have given the go-ahead to a controversial site for the new Bishopbriggs Academy on the outskirts of the town, despite huge concerns raised by parents.

But campaigners say some children will be forced to walk too far to get to the new school.

Thanks for you comments in regard to the bus turning circle and what's happening with the so-called surplus land.
Just a couple of points regarding travelling to school.
Westerhill Road after it crosses the railway up to Wester Cleddens Road has no pavement or lighting.
I'm a keen cyclist and cycle with my kids. Living in Woodhill I would not allow my kids to cycle down to the High School location along Wester Cleddens Road for the simple reason that Wester Cleddens Road is too busy between 8.30 and 9.00am. It is narrow and is also a bus route.
The Woodhill Residents Group carried out a survey, counting cars going into Woodhill Primary which is beside the new Academy location. The number of cars was incredible, sometimes a car every 6 seconds was accessing Kirriemuir gardens, and the closer to 9am the faster they were travelling.
Why dont the campaigners look at it as a way of kids actually walking to school. You cant have it both ways with regard to people complaining that kids get the car or bus to school to often and be encouraged to walk but now its too far to walk?! I mean, it would be interesting to know how many of the compainers kids actually walk or is it more inconvience for them to drive them to school as it is further away.
