Five councillors set to quit?

It is understood that five councillors are set to leave before May's election.

Each could receive a tax-free golden handshake of up to £70,000

Other councils have named those standing down but Liberal Democrate run East Dunbarton has refused to name names.
John Morrison Lib Dem leader said "it's no secret" but did not say who the councillors were.

Two Labour councillors, Tom Smith and Edward McGaughrin have already said they are standing down.

In another move 'Scottish hockey' have backed 'SportScotland' in their concerns over the East Dunbartonshire schools PPP project.

With local elections in May some councillors could choose to take the money rather take the risk of being voted out.

Plans lodged for Bishopbriggs town centre

The developers have lodged plans for the area including the old Bishopbriggs High School, Triangle Centre, St. Matthew's Church and Bishopbriggs Library (the old school).

If you're looking for it online here's a hint...
You won't find under 'Applications of Particular Interest' - wonder why?

The plans are TP/ED/06/1320 you cannot view them online as I write this.

Let's hope it's more successful that Churchill Way (now demolished) or Cross Court (empty units). With a number of outlets lying empty already in Bishopbriggs is their a great need for another shopping centre? We only have to look as far as Kirkintilloch to see what has happen to their centre!

The developers now have the entire Bishopbriggs High School site and land they decided was 'surplus' on both the Thomas Muir site, where the new school will have to share sports facilities with adjacent primaries.

Quote from Council 'Consulative Document' - The Thomas Muir site...
"They consider that this in turn will offer the Council improved educational facilities in the new school, particularly playing fields.

Having survived the bombings during the Second World War it took a single council meeting on 26th June to close the school.

My 100 year connection with the school

I can trace my connection with Bishopbriggs High School back 100 years.

My mother has lived in Bishopbriggs all her life, starting in Mavis Valley, a mining village by the canal, near where the sports centre is built.

He grandfather was a builder and build bungalows in Brackenbrae Avenue and Woodhill Road. She moved the Springfield Square after meeting, and marrying, my father who was posted to Bishopbriggs during the Second World War.
That's when I arrived, we then moved to Hawthorn Avenue, the home my parents still live in and I moved to Colston Avenue after getting married.

My mother, and her uncle, attended the old Bishopbriggs High School (now the library) and my sister and myself attended the new Bishopbriggs High after Wester Cleddens primary.

I had to fight hard for my sons to attend the High School, but they do, and for that I am proud.

My mother worked at the school for over 25 years, so all-in-all I feel very attached to the place.
