Academy makes Herald Diary...

Ken Smith has commented on the unpopular decision to build the Academy on Thomas Muir site.

Just saying what the voters think?

Academic argument
AND so some people pass into folklore. A meeting to discuss the unpopular decision by the council to site the new Bishopbriggs Academy on a less accessible site than the current Bishopbriggs High heard one complainer argue: "The only way the new school could be less popular would be if you made Jade Goody the new janitor."

Just thinking about the location - it may be easier for half of bishopbriggs to put their kids on a bus or train to Lenzie academy rather than have them walk up to the outskirts of bishopbriggs. I wonder how many placing requests will start to be submitted.

This is getting ridiculous, when I attended Meadowburn Primary School my parents moved from Meadowburn to Woodhill in my Primary 7 year. For the next 6 months I cycled every day from Woodhill to Meadowburn. When it came to secondary school I remained with the Meadowburn intake and attended 2 days at the main site of Bishopbriggs High School and cycled the other three to the secondary campus of Balmuildy Primary.

If we can ensure that adequate pavements and lighting can be installed before the new school opens I can see no reason why pupils should not be encouraged to walk or cycle to the school.

Perhaps if I took as much exercise now as I did then I might be in better physical condition, and dont get me started on the parents who have to run their little darlings door to door when they are delivering papers!!

yes you are right, it is rediculous of me wanting to protect my 11 year old walking 1.6 miles to school across and beside the most congested roads in bishopbriggs.
You show nothing other than contempt for basic safety. Good enough for you so good enough for everyone.
I dont know when the high school met at balmuildy as you say, not recently I would have thought. The traffic is worse year over year which negates any points you make. The idea of my child cycling is a non-starter due to the traffic and plain bad driving exhibited every day on the roads.
The basic point you miss is that we have lost a CENTRAL school for everyone.
